Accredited Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP)
Sleep technology,
also known as polysomnographic technology, is a specialized
health-care profession. Sleep technologists utilize
the latest technology to conduct “sleep studies” that
ensure the safe and accurate assessment and treatment of sleep
disorders patients.
A-STEP is a two-step program that begins with
an 80-hour didactic course with a 40 hour externship (STEP 1)
through and A-STEP Provider.
STEP 2 includes 18 months of on-the-job training provided by
each sleep tech’s employer and supplemented by an e-learning
program of 14 modules, though the AASM Web site.
The American
Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) offers the Accredited
Sleep Technologist Education Program (A-STEP) to equip students
with the education and training they need to excel in the profession
of sleep technology.
